17:21:13 From Lizzie (she/her) : Note: Smaller fragments of forest at risk of greater levels of deforestation, study finds https://news.mongabay.com/2020/03/smaller-fragments-of-forest-at-risk-of-greater-levels-of-deforestation-study-finds/ Need to expand and connect fragmented forests for the forest and species, plant and animal, to survive and thrive. 17:22:05 From Susan Oxley(she/her) : Yes, that's the idea. Thank you, Lizzie. 17:23:00 From Michael : Viruses like Covid 19 arise because of forest and habitat fragmentation. See John Vidal. March 18, 2020. Retrieved from https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/destroyed-habitat-creates-the-perfect-conditions-for-coronavirus-to-emerge/ 17:23:44 From Susan Oxley(she/her) : It is part of the imbalance of nature. Thank you, Michael for this link, too. 17:25:38 From Lizzie (she/her) : In Florida, concerned citizens have been purchasing and creating land trusts to connect from the south to the north of the state as a corridor for species to migrate to survive climate change 17:26:09 From Susan Oxley(she/her) : Wonderful. Please share that in the coming conversation. 17:37:32 From Harold : campground boards should have environmental goals that they track, measure and report to their associations and other stakeholders. 17:37:57 From Susan Oxley(she/her) : Good idea! I support that! 17:38:03 From Lizzie (she/her) : Rights of Nature and Earth Jurisprudence is a way to protect our sacred spaces. Thank you. 17:41:39 From Laurie G : Yes, Rights of Nature is an amazing movement! Bolivia, Ecuador have put nature rights into their constitution. Some Indigenous Nations have added right sof nature to their constitutions, and there's a river in New Zealand that has received legal status. Harder here in the US … 17:42:48 From Susan Oxley(she/her) : Awareness is rising for these rights of nature. We just need more people who understand the benefits of upholding the rights of land and life. 17:48:12 From Elizabeth E : Because of the stripping of culture done by government mandates and resident schools, some of that knowledge was lost by a whole generation. We need to hear from those who still know the cultural ways of assisting climate. 17:48:23 From Lizzie (she/her) : In Florida, we’ve had success and backlash, but we’re still in the struggle. There’s successful efforts that can inspire us. Here’s a link to one RON webinar that I organized. https://youtu.be/tvzfQsZOJT0 17:48:51 From Susan Oxley(she/her) : Both good comments.
